If you haven't had the chance to visit the Miss O & Friends website, you really should! Touted as a website to be "by girls...for girls," it's definitely a website that delivers. The real life Juliette, one of the five Miss O girls (the others are Miss O herself, Justine, Harlie, and Isabella), created the basis for Miss O & Friends when she was ten years old. After drawing some great, cool girls during the drive home after a family vacation, years later Juliette, her sister Olivia, and her mother started playing around with those same girls on the computer. Not long after, Miss O & Friends was born, and it's quickly become one of the most visited websites on the Web. Aimed towards tween and young teen girls, the site features tons of interactive activities to keep you interested.
Thus the idea for WRITE ON! was born. Miss O & Friends held a writing contest for its visitors, and chose the top fifteen of the bunch to be published in the WRITE ON! collection. As the title says, this is rockin' fiction that covers all aspects of life, from friendship to family to school and everything in between.
Included in the collection is AT THE EDGE OF THE UNIVERSE by Anya of Massachusetts, PRACTICAL JOKER OR PRACTICAL JOKEE? by Ashley of Georgia, BEST FRIENDS by Emily of Vermont, I AM by Kelsey of Delaware, ANY TIME YOU NEED A FRIEND by Marissa of New York, A DIFFERENT PATH by Nesima of Arizona, THE MOST TOTALLY WEIRD FAMILY EVER (SERIOUSLY!) by Emily of Arkansas, A DIFFERENT KIND OF HERO by Sarah of California, SPEAK YOUR MIND by Jamie of Florida, THE QUEST FOR NORMAL by Maddie of Minnesota, PEER PRESSURE by Rita of Thailand, UNTITLED by Afi of Georgia, LOOKING DOWN THE BARREL OF A RIFLE NAMED EVE by Abby of Virginia, SURPRISE OF A LIFETIME by Farah of Washington, and CASSIDY JENKENS: FUTURE SUPERSTAR by Erin of Missouri.
A nice mix of fiction and true stories, WRITE ON! is a good book for tweens and young teens to get the chance to read about other kids of the same age. Kudos to all of the talented authors who won a place in this collection of rockin' fiction, and a heartfelt good luck to all of those who might enter future contests! ( )
