Get ready to be wowed by this large board book that provides a visual exploration of the ocean. Each double page spread has more than 20 colorful pictures of exotic creatures - all labeled - along with some fun facts that will keep readers busy for hours. Spreads include: “Gorgeous Glow, “Super Shells,” “Spectacularly Spotted,” “Funny Faces, ”Amazing Arms,” “Stylish Stripes,” “Fantastic Fins,” “Terrific Teeth,” “Bold Black & White,” “Snazzy Spikes,” and Enormous Eyes.” It may sound like that isn’t a lot of pages, but each spread is so full of things to look at that it seems jam-packed. The pages (or more accurately, boards) are saturated with bright colors with nary a white space to be found. As the author/illustrator writes on her website, she is celebrating the diversity of the animal kingdom. With many things to see on every page, her book is guaranteed to inspire and fascinate young readers. Nota Bene: This book is the third in a series. After you fall in love with this one, you might want to acquire Creature Features and Creature Features: Dinosaurs as well! Evaluation: Recommended for ages 3 to 7? Forget just that range - this book will delight all ages! What's Inside a Flower?: And Other Questions About Science & Nature is a colourful picture book by Rachel Ignotofsky that covers the basics of plant growth, flower anatomy, pollination, and seed development. It is obviously written for a much younger audience than Ignotofsky's other books that I have read (Women in Science, The Wondrous Workings of Planet Earth). The text is sparse, but that just means that Ignotofsky's gorgeous illustrations (colourful flowers! cute earthworms! adorable bees!) take center stage. Honestly, I could look at the illustrations for hours. I also appreciate that Ignotofsky doesn't try to be overly clever or cutesy in her text descriptions, but simply presents the information in a succinct and understandable way. I wish a book like this had existed when I was a child, because I'm sure I would have loved it. Highly recommended. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
