Ibn Arabí es uno de los principales maestros espirituales de la historia de la humanidad. Conocido como "el mayor de los maestros", nació en Murcia el año 1165 y murió en Damasco en el 1240. Ibn 'Arabí escribió más de cuatrocientas obras, entre las que destacan Las revelaciones de la Meca, una vastísima enciclopedia de sabiduría esotérica y conocimiento espiritual, y sus Los engarces de las sabidurías, cuya traducción directa del árabe nos complacemos en presentar aquí por primera vez al público de habla hispana. La presente obra fue escrita después de una visión. En ella, el profeta Muhammad se apareció a Ibn 'Arabí, sosteniendo un libro en su mano; le comunicó su título y le ordenó que pusiera por escrito su enseñanza para bien de sus discípulos. A los veintisiete profetas (de Adán a Muhammad), se consagra, respectivamente, cada capítulo del libro, que está centrado en un aspecto particular de la Sabiduría Divina y en el profeta que es su instrumento específico. Cada profeta es un engaste que se hace en un anillo u otro ornamento para sujetar una piedra preciosa, especialmente formado para ser el receptáculo de la sabiduría en cuestión. Este libro, el mejor compendio de la doctrina esotérica de Ibn Arabí, es, sin duda, una de las obras más difíciles de la literatura sufí. Es también la obra más atacada y perseguida por los adversarios del sufismo, pasados y presentes, incapaces de comprender su profundidad espiritual. Su influencia ha sido inmensa. -
