She's small, quiet, and "no trouble at all," and sometimes she gets forgotten. She also can't see very well. Up close her vision is fine, but further away, everything is blurry. By now she's, "used to blurry blobs and splashes of color." Since no one pays close enough attention to Kate, they don't notice anything abnormal. She doesn't know what other people can see, so she doesn't think there's anything wrong. One day at the beach, Kate gets lost and can't find her family because of her poor vision. She panics and runs allover, but finally mom finds her. Finally, her parents realize Kate is near-sighted. They apologize for not noticing it sooner, and get her glasses the next week. This makes Kate very happy. At last, she can see everything and has something to make her noticeable and feel important. Uses in classroom: -text-to-self connections -all about me theme/unit -family theme/unit -talking about speaking up if you have a problem or difficulties -have students write about something that makes them different, or about one time they needed help Fortunately the author remains positive about Kate getting glasses, and focuses on how they improve her quality of life. Unfortunately the book's premise is that because Kate is quiet, she is overlooked/neglected in a large family -- which seemed to send a negative message about being part of a large family. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Because Kate is the quiet one compared to her four noisy brothers and sisters, her parents are slow to notice that she is near-sighted and needs glasses. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
