Although there have been other books in the Phoenix Skulls series, I personally think of this one as the first true book in that series. That's because the others set the scene of being in Phoenix and Jace's backstory. With this one, we are starting to see the new chapter working and all the stuff that goes around.

Finn is a walking dead man, literally. His death has been faked and he has the name of another dead man. Then there's Caitlyn, who has lived a quiet life, whose mother has been too strict and overbearing her entire life, and who is just now starting to get a taste of some freedom.

I really felt sorry for Finn. There's so much going on in his life and so much crap from his past, including his father. He's worked really hard to get over it, but that stuff is going to be there no matter what. He really tries, and I think that he's mostly gotten past the addiction and the stuff that surrounds it.

I thought that Caitlyn was a lot stronger than her family wanted to give her credit for. I think that she's stronger than even she knows. There's a spine of titanium paired with her soft heart, which is a pretty awesome combo, if you ask me. ( )
