Lieutenant John Stoneburner of the Navajo Tribal Police must be completely stumped (and desperate) on his two murder investigations to willingly call in Sam Firecloud and Lacey Fitzpatrick to help him out. Because Stoneburner does not believe in mediums or that Sam can feel what ghosts are trying to convey to him. Despite his Navajo heritage he’s strictly a facts only, no woowoo guy. But he has two guys who have been brutally murdered and mutilated and indications are there will be more victims, so Stoneburner makes the call and Sam & Lacey head to the Navajo Nation, specifically to Chinle, Arizona.
This is a particularly hard one to stomach. Man, why are people so cruel to others? Gruesome is the word for this story and I’m glad the author doesn’t feel we need intense detailed reconstruction of crime scenes. Because eeeeeeeee! I love that there is Navajo mythology included and it's always lovely to see Sam’s grandpa, Ben. I’m also liking Stoneburner more and hope to see him yet again. ( )
