This book is a fascinating exploration of marbled patterns. It contains sections for different types: stone patterns, getgel patterns, nonpareil patterns, and chevron patterns. Each pattern is shown in a full-page, full-color illustration, and each has diagrams showing how the pattern is made. There are several pages of introductory material with some brief historical notes, along with information on tools and other materials, and each of the types of marbling has a page of useful tips. It doesn't appear to me to be a book for beginners, though; while it has a lot of information, it does not present step-by-step directions. It seems to be more of a reference book.
The best thing about the book, I think, are the handsome full-page illustrations of each pattern, many of which have intriguing and descriptive names such as fountain, octopus, cathedral, icarus, palm, angel fish, bouquet, or zebra. There is also a short section at the back of the book which shows a number of marbled fine art works.
