Note: I accessed a digital review copy of this book through Edelweiss. Different categories highlight two or three women varying from astronauts to painters, inventors to entrepreneurs, activists to environmentalists. Although these are women from Canada, there are some familiar faces to American students. The layout of the book is the same for every category. Each category compares the historical figure with a woman in today’s world. starting with “Now” on the left side of the spread and “then” on the right side. Colorful Illustrations accompany half the page of text. The heading is first and last name, when they were born and where. For most of the historical figures there is also the year they died. There is a balance between women of color and white women. A spread of examples show that the path for these women was not easy and girls can follow in their footsteps. There are many more inspiring women highlighted with black and white illustrations and a short paragraph at the end of the book. There is a spread of important dates, other resources and an index. In addition to being a resource on these specific women it could be used as an assignment to find their American counterparts. Written 5th - 8th grade AD+ nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

"Canadian women have always been groundbreakers. They have made scientific discoveries, set sports records, challenged discrimination and so much more. In this unique look at Canadian history, award-winning children's writer Elizabeth MacLeod juxtaposes today's inspiring women with yesterday's trailblazers who paved the way in that field. The book is organized by profession and includes more than 100 women from science, the arts, sports, politics, activism, law, business and more. The selection of women reflects the country's diversity, with stories of women of colour, Indigenous women, Paralympians and women from the LGBTQ+ community."-- Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
