Ball clearly explains the mechanics of composting and goes into great detail about what you should and should not compost. He also outlines different methods of composting and how to choose one. I found the book less helpful in actually setting up a compost bin--I went with a garbage can bin, which it does not mention--and in troubleshooting an active compost pile. It's a good introduction; any number of web sites can fill in the gaps I mentioned, but they don't go into as much detail about options, materials, and mechanics. ( )
