Listened to audio narrated well by Jim Frangione. He's a wonderful narrator.
Mitya came from the a crime family with close ties to the Bratva. His father beat him and abused him and raised him to hate everyone and be as viscious as himself. While MItya's leopard grew to become viscious they both refused to become like his father. Meeting Ania soothed both himself and his leapard.
Ania's family drives and maintains cars, her family has been systematically executed. She's a driver and a sniper and has been running the family business and taking care of her father since he was shot. She's determined to uncover who's behind her family's deaths and she's a leopard but her leopard hasn't emerged yet.
These two meet when Ania gets a flat tire on a rainy night. Mitya's leopard recognized his mate and compelled Mitya to stop and help the woman beside the road.
If you are used to Feehan's books you know the men are dominant and controlling and the women let them get away with it, caught up in sexual hunger and desire for their man and she doesn't pull any punches with the violence of the Leopard world. If you don't know Feehan book's, if you don't like those things you may not enjoy this book. I used to really enjoy Feehan's stories, she writes off the charts heated sex scenes but I kept wishing we'd get back to the story and make the sex scenes more meaningful, more is not necessarily better.
I loved that Mitya wanted to protect and care of Ania but hated that he tried to prevent her from being herself and didn't trust her enough to share more with her, until he almost lost her. She gave him everything and he kept withholding from her.
I had to re-listen to the ending because it felt incomplete, like only one part of the overall conflict had been addressed. So I have mixed feelings about the overall book, I liked it but it felt like the author let sex take over the book and the story suffered for it.
