1165. Twentieth Century Interpretations of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner: A Collection of Critical Essays, edited by James D. Boulger (read 3 June, 1972) I was inspired to read this after my son, Bouf, and I read The Rime of the Ancient Mariner aloud by alternate verses. I have always been struck by the stanza from the poem:

"Like one that on a lonesome road
Doth walk in fear and dread,
And having once turned round walks on,
And turns no more his head;
Because he knows, a frightful fiend
Doth close behind him tread."

which I used to quote to my children frequently. ( )
