When Nina decides to take a radio broadcasting class her senior year, she expects it to be a walk in the park. Instead, it's a complete disaster. The members of Nina's haphazardly formed radio team have approximately nothing in common. And to maximize the awkwardness her group includes Jamie, a childhood friend she'd hoped to basically avoid for the rest of her life. The show is a mess, internet rumors threaten to bring the wrath of two fandoms down on their heads, and to top it all off Nina's family is on the brink of some major upheaval. Everything feels like it's spiraling out of control--but maybe control is overrated?… (altro)

I really enjoyed this read. The one thing I love about emma miles books is how they focused on friendship and this friendship good developed in such a fun way. I thought the structure of this book the radio station was a really fun structure for it. I also really was invested in the mystery that was the through line of the read.I also was super invested in the step parent relationship the occurred in this novel. I also really liked the blast from the past romance. Such a fun read. Def high on my favorite reads from emma miles. ( )

I have no idea how this YA book wound up on my to-read list. I do occasionally read YA, but when I started this one, I didn't realize the intended audience. It quickly became apparent. In the end, I enjoyed it, despite the pace being a bit slow. ( )

"She lives in St. Louis, and has recently completed a PhD in cell biology." Jeesh, Emma Mills, as if you weren't already the coolest.

Ohhhh I get it. This Is Our Now is a callback! Nice. Mills's editor obviously told her to start putting more romance in her books after 1-3, but I loved that this still wasn't a full on thing, but a nice little slow burn that felt very satisfying when it ultimately happened. The friendships, on the other hand, felt slightly more instafriendy, as sweet as the conclusion was.

I just love all the music superfans in Mills's books. They're so much fun. And the sisters are fabulous. I agree that this is on the weaker side of Mills's bibliography, but it was still a lovely fun fast read. ( )

This is my second Emma Mills book. I really loved Foolish Hearts because I thought the characters were brilliant and the dynamics between them were entertaining and excellently developed. Unfortunately I did not get the same level of enjoyment from the characters in Lucky Caller. Connecting with characters is, in my opinion, the most important criteria for enjoying a romance. It can be set in space or in Antarctica or on the Serengeti, but if we don’t care about the characters then it’s a lost cause for me. I don’t mind a bit of awkwardness, but too much and it isn’t cute awkward, it’s well, awkward awkward. This book unfortunately had the latter. Looking forward to reading another one of her books regardless. ( )
