Can a girl who has spent her whole life avoiding confrontation really save a world? After a fatal accident the Deities offer Lauren Frost a choice, accept her purpose in life & prove her worth by saving a world called Daraglathia or accept that she is a coward & her death on earth.
With the chance to regain her life & save her long lost best friend, Lauren has no choice but to dig deep & become who she was always meant to be, a hero.
Frost, book one of The Daraglathia Chronicles is a fair read. The main action & the bests parts of the book take place once Lauren enters the other world where elves, magic, & cute intelligent dogs exist. The concept is interesting & many of the characters have potential which I hope are explored more in the next book. There are a few inconsistencies, such as Lauren becoming a insta-hero the moment she arrives in this other world despite how pathetic we are supposed to find her at the being & the ending was disappointing as we never get to see her reunited on earth with her best friend, a main motivation for her whole journey.
All in all I enjoyed the book, will probably read the next one to find out what happened to Noah, Laurens best friend, but I would not classify it a Great Read.

Moye unfortunately has a tendency to tell, not show in her writing - which can grate a bit on the nerves. On the bright side, once you adjust to that tendency the story is engaging and well developed.

Daraglathia became as real to me through Frost as any place I've ever visited. Moye's writing really shines in the dialogue, though. The dialogue almost entirely makes up for whatever else the writing is lacking.

It was interesting how Moye managed to take the worst characters and (slightly) redeem them, while at the same time showing us the true faces of some of the likable characters.

Although it worked with the overall story arc, I found the ending frustrating. With that being said, at least it wasn't a cliched ending.

Overall, I liked Frost and would recommend it to fantasy lovers who are keen on the world of elves and dwarfs and magic.

Frost is about Lauren, a 17 year old girl with a challenging home life who doesn’t want to make a decision which will improve her life for fear of hurting others feelings. During an accident she gets magically transported to Daraglathia, a place where humans and elves are on the brink of war. She is prophesied to save them, and also save another human stolen from Earth, one who happens to have been her best friend.

There was a lot of potential in this book and I really liked that the author was trying to have Lauren deal with her mental health and get some good advice from people who cared about her, but unfortunately the world building once we got to Daraglathia fell a bit flat for me. I never felt like I had a clear picture of what was going on or felt very invested in the stakes. But it was a fun enough read, and while I wouldn’t compare it to The Lunar Chronicles, it did remind me a bit of Alice in Zombieland, so if you enjoyed that series you may enjoy this one ( )

I couldn't get into the book, for me it was so cringey. The way the book was written was good, however I couldn't get into the book. I had been excited as it had mentioned a world such as the amazing works of art by Cassandra Clare("Mortal Instruments") and Marissa Meyer("The Lunar Chronicles"). However I felt it fell far from what those two series had been. I did not end up finishing the book as I could not bear reading it any longer, I could not feel the magic of the book world in this book. The way the book enwraps you into it's world. ( )

This is a fantasy which pulls a seventeen-year-old girl into a world of magic and danger.

Lauren's life is not rosy. Her father is about to marry not only a girl who is half is age, but Lauren's childhood bully. To flee the situation, Lauren heads to her mother's house a few days early. A car accident, however, nearly kills her and lands her with the Fates, who tell her that she must save another world if she'd like to return to her so far life. Not really having a choice, she agrees and finds herself captive of a queen, who is determined to pull her memories and secrets from her mind. Lauren is weak and in a prison until a stranger shows up to rescue her and lead her on the journey of her life.

I was excited to get my hands on this one, and the first chapters held everything I hoped they would. The dialogue flows well, Lauren comes across as a teen in a bad situation and there's a nice sense of tension building up in the background. When Lauren, however, meets the Fates and travels to the other realm, I wasn't quite as drawn into the story anymore. Still, it had exciting moments until the end and offers lots of adventure, snark and some romance along the way as well.

While I didn't dislike the story either, I found Lauren a bit hard to grasp. One of her issues is supposedly that she's passive/aggressive and avoids confrontation to the point of making her own life miserable. And this comes across nicely in the first chapters and a few times afterwards. But the minute she leaves Earth, her personality becomes simply snarky. I had a hard time connecting to her. So while the tale holds lots of wonderful moments and magical excitement, it wasn't as grabbing as I hoped it to be. Still, it wasn't badly done either, and I'm sure fans of snarky heroines, magic and romance will enjoy this one.

I won a complimentary copy through Library Thing and am leaving my honest thoughts. ( )
