The year 1960 was an important one in auto manufacturing; it was the year all of the Big Three unveiled entrants in a new class of car called the compact. Chrysler's offering, the Plymouth Valiant, was paired with its redesigned 6-cylinder engine entrant, the Slant Six, known by its nickname the "leaning tower of power." This engine powered the Valiants when they swept the top seven positions in the newly christened compact race that precluded the Daytona 500. With its legacy intact, Chrysler's Slant Six powered Mopar automobiles for decades to come in three displacement offerings (170, 198, 225). Now 60 years old, your Slant Six could probably use some freshening up. Slant Six engine expert Doug Dutra has produced this volume to walk you through every aspect of disassembly, evaluation, rebuild, and reassembly in an easy-to-read, step-by-step format. The book also covers modifications, showing how to squeeze the most out of your engine. With millions of Slant Six engines built over the 30-plus years that the engine was produced, it's always a good idea to have this book handy, as you never know when the next "leaning tower of power" will find its way into your garage.… (altro)

Chrysler Slant Six Engines How to Rebuild and Modify is another great addition to the Workbench How to series from Cartech. Jam packed with full color photos, instructions, tools needed, parts, and a little history thrown in too. Doug Dutra has written the must have go to guide for these engines. ( )

This is a nonfiction book on the history, assembly, rebuilding, tuning, and improving of Mopar Slant Six engines. I found this book to be extremely in-depth and well thought out, with lots of detail for those who would need that much detail. Good for both amateurs and experienced enthusiasts alike. It is a great resource for identifying specific years, parts, casting numbers, and interchangeability for these Slant Six engines. The author has real world experience with these engines, and it comes through in the book. Good, detailed photos and extras (such as a track performance test on a hopped-up Slant Six) hold your interest and keep the book from becoming dry as a resource. I would give this book five stars. Another awesome book from Car Tech. Dutra does his homework and a car restorer will know just what they need to do to rebuild or modify the Slant 6. Photos are clear, instructions are precise, and if you mess up, it's your own fault! ( )

The Workbench book, “Chrysler Slant Six Engines, how to rebuild and modify”, by Doug Dutra is a great book for anyone building or working on the slant 6 engines. It’s full of information on rebuilding all aspects of the engines. Lots of photos throughout to help with the information. Everything from tuning and diagnosis to the complete engine overhaul. Very good book for identification, which includes casting numbers, serial numbers and visual differences of both the die-cast aluminum and iron blocks. Quite a lot on modifying to include installing a TorqStorm Supercharger kit. ( )
