Received a copy of this book free in exchange for an honest review.

Teachers are often tasked with helping students develop thinking skills without being given clear help on how to achieve this goal - this book is a nice resource to get your students started in thinking like a scientist. Based around the Next Generation Science Standards the lessons are scaffolded to help students build their own knowledge with activities and investigations. Includes useful black line masters and some grading rubrics. ( )

"Thinking Like a Scientist" is a collection of 18 lessons that lead students to develop various habits of mind and thinking skills while completing increasingly engaging and motivating science activities. Although these lessons don't correlate with a specific area of science like biology or geology, these lessons can be (fairly significantly) modified to work within any unit of study (which is what I plan to do with them). I can see using many of these activities in my classroom next year, but I might want to connect them more closely with our required units in science. Finally, the pages are easy to read for the teacher and the students, directions are clear, and the progression of activities makes logical sense. I was given a free copy of the book from LibraryThing in exchange for my review. ( )

I was given this book by the publisher. The review is solely my own honest opinion.

I was a former teacher of fifth and six grade, plus I had two gifted students. This book would have been a valuable resource in my classroom and in my own home to help children think at a higher level. There are many examples of uses of various materials, including literature. ( )

This is a well laid out set of lessons designed to challenge and enrich young scientists, using higher level thinking and questioning strategies as well as a format for success and understanding. The scaffolding provided from the lesson sequencing and the variety of activities, skills and strategies utilized throughout, makes it an excellent learning resource for all educators. I see this fitting very well into an enrichment classroom scenario.

This will be going into the professional library in my school library. ( )
