This is one of the most riveting, nerve-racking books I've ever read. I was on edge the entire time I read this one, and it was nearly impossible to put down. Lisa Jackson did a great job with suspense. I thought up theories until the very last page, and almost every one of them was proven wrong with a shocking twist.

The characters were extremely well-written. They had depth, and the character development was amazing. Throughout the course of the book, you could tell that even if the changes were subtle, the characters were still growing into better versions of themselves.

The short chapters with therapy conversations were unique, which I loved. These chapters also kept the suspense going and kept you questioning what you thought you knew. With each new therapy session, my idea of who the true murderer and "ghost" were changed.

As for the grief aspect of the book, I think it was well-thought-out and well-written. Though I can't relate to the severity of the grief and PTSD Rachel felt, it still felt realistic. Nothing about it felt farfetched or exaggerated.

The ending of this book was phenomenal. The revelation of the true events of the night of Luke's murder was completely shocking, and despite my attempts to theorize on it, I was completely wrong. In addition to this, Rachel also got a happy ending. I wholeheartedly believe that she deserved the happy ending she got.

Overall, I believe that this is one of the best psychological thrillers I've read. It genuinely freaked me out from time to time, which is quite rare. It was nice to find a book that would actually scare me, and at the same time, I've found a promising thriller author. I'll definitely check more of her works out. ( )

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I knew Rachel wasn’t just paranoid but that she had a reason to double check the locks on her house and be worried where her kids went! I was very intrigued on if Rachel had really killed her brother. She seemed innocent but she even thought she was guilty! There were several twists and the end was completely surprising! I didn’t even guess it! A very good and quick read. ( )

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!! Paranoid may be so far the BEST book Ms. Jackson has written YET, and I LOVED THIS NOVEL! Poor Rachael was blamed of murdering her step brother, Luke, with a REAL gun instead of the air pellet gun that he had given her! Now, twenty years later members who had played the game in the old cannery are being killed one by one and Rachael is getting paranoid that someone is watching her and that SHE will be next! ( )

When Rachel Gaston was a teenager she got involved in a dangerous game. This involvement led to the tragic death of her brother Luke. Acquitted from the crime, it is now twenty years later. Someone is bound and determined to make her pay for Luke's death.

Rachel had quite a bit of counseling and even had a nice life for a while. She married and had two children. However, her nightmares and anxiety have a profound affect on her and she and husband, Detective Cade Ryder divorced. They are good co-parents to their teenage children and with rapidly changing circumstances, are drawn together quite often in this story.

Rachel and several others were in the process of preparing for their twenty-year high school reunion. One of the former classmates is murdered and several other things, including other murders, happen in quick succession. This, quite naturally, makes Rachel quite nervous. All she wants to do is to forget the past and prepare her children for the future. All the while, she wonders about her relationship with Cade, and he has similar thoughts throughout.

Paranoid is a thrilling story. There is a strong element of revenge in this story, and this reaches deep into the lives of Rachel, and also her children. There is also the paranoia Rachel feels as her past continues to resurface. The danger is present from the outset, and despite the family drama, reunion planning and personality issues, their are enough twists and turns, as well as plenty of plausible suspects, to make this a difficult book to put down. Lisa Jackson is a remarkable author and I always enjoy reading her books.

Many thanks to Kensington and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion. ( )
