No, seriously. I find that, if asked to do so, I could summarize this collection of vignettes in just those three words. That was unexpected. If asked again, I'm not actually sure how much I could elaborate without either spoiling an individual story or applying a layer of something over what is best served plain.
The pieces are quite short which doesn't bother me any, save that the formatting and my disagreeable and out-dated e-reader caused some reading trouble. I'm fond of the first person perspective, and the variety of everyday life situations that are present to go askew. I'm not sure I can honestly say there is a prevailing atmosphere to the book, as each story has its own particularities. Some are blunt, and as a reader you take what you are given, even if you aren't sure why. Others seem to play tricks with the narrative, not unlike a certain kitchen.
I confess I haven't read the whole thing as of yet. I think that would feel like eating all the popcorn and lamenting both that I ate too much and that there is no more popcorn. Randomly season each piece as you go and I think you might have this book.
**Clarification and all, I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I would probably rate this as just under 4 stars if the options allowed it. (
