A girl on the run, but from what besides herself? Are the Wardens still in existence and if so, do they still hunt Oddities like her? Vesper is full of guilt for what happened the night she lost control of her power and nearly killed her family. She's been on the move ever since, terrified of losing control again.
When she is temporarily stranded in San Francisco, her impulsive act to save a guy who's about her age, goes south when she loses control, but the ensuing mess turns out to be the start of her salvation. It includes discovering many others like herself, a secret underground where fights between Oddities are being staged, and a growing and very painful dilemma for her in terms of the fights.
There are some very interesting abilities manifested by Oddities that are contending as well as working to obtain a better future for all of them. Add in secrets, romantic tension, and some amazing fight scenes and you have a very enjoyable story. ( )

This is a bit of X-men meets Hunger Games but the X-men are Oddities and the Hunger game is the Tournament of the Unraveling where competitors battle for a chance to rewrite the past.
This is a fresh fantasy with a very likeable main character; Vesper Montgomery. ( )
