Blackberry Stew is a trade/early reader book. This story is a great story for children who are dealing with a lose of a loved one. Hope is sad that her grandpa has passed away and does not want to go the funeral because that will make it real. Her Auntie says to think of the happy times she had with her grandpa. She tells her to keep these memoires with her and her grandpa will never be gone.
I believe that this book is pretty straight forward with no hidden meanings, this book is telling the story of a little girl who lost her grandpa and misses him terribly. She does not want to let him go.
This is an excellent story for children dealing with lose and would be a great discussion book for the classroom.
The illustrations in this book simple form paintings with bright and dull colors. They do not have a lot of little details, but still enhance the story. ( )
