A free house and a dead ex-husband? That's like winning the PowerballCarly Taylor swore she'd never go back to Potter Grove. That cesspool of a small town always seemed to be teeming with gossip, and most of it was about her and her lying, drunken, rich husband who hung out at strip clubs and cheated on her. But that was four years ago. And now, that jerk is dead. It's the reason Carly's finally heading back. Her ex-husband left her his house when he died, and Carly figures you'd have to be some sort of stupid to pass up a free house. It's like winning the Lotto, especially when it involves a dead ex too. But the town seems different to her now, like something is off. And it's not just the fact there's a murderer on the loose and women are missing. As soon as Carly signs the paperwork on the spooky Victorian, she finds out her Lotto win has a catch. And it's an annoying, snotty one. Her dead ex-husband is haunting her free house. He wants her to solve his murder, which Carly is in no hurry to do, until the missing women are tied to her ex's death so figuring out his case takes on a new level of urgency. But just like a free house, nothing is ever as safe as it seems, especially when you're forced to solve crimes with your dead ex-husband.… (altro)

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Carly has inherited her philandering ex-husbands old Victorian house, complete with dog and housekeeper. Carly is perplexed. It should have gone to his new wife. or another relative of his. No sooner has she been in the house alone, does her dead ex pay her a ghostly visit.
This is the first foray into the Ghosts of Landover series. It looks to be an intriguing series of cozy mysteries with quirky characters and, what I can only assume is an over arcing mystery of Carla’s biological parents and how it pertains to the house she inherited. I think there is a lot more to that aside from a resemblance to a doll and a former dancer.

There are a few noticeable grammatical and spelling errors and it could benefit from a good edit.
The characters are slightly wooden. They are interesting, but no one really stood out except the annoying ex-husband’s ghost.

This was initially slow in starting but I kept reading because I wanted to find out who killed Carly’s ex-husband and who was murdering the strippers. And boy, did the revelation take me by surprise. I suspected a member of Carly’s former in-laws, not who it turned out to be.
It was nice how Carly and her best friend set on the road to reconciliation after the dust settled from the murders.
Her ex-husband is still haunting her so either he doesn’t want to leave, or his killer hasn’t been found yet.
I would recommend this to people who like quirky small towns, mysteries and a dash of paranormal elements. ( )

I liked the book. Etta Faire makes her story believable, you just do not understand other people do not see the ghost of Carlies ex-husband too.
At some parts in the story ('all the lights went out') I just did have to stop reading, I like that scary feeling.
The thoughts of Carly about her ex-husband, still attraction but hurt too, are quite confusing. I could understand that part too.
The end was a tiny bit disappointing, but well, it had to be like that, seeing there will be a sequel. ( )

Once you read a book, catharsis is what connects you to it. I got this book in return of an honest review and just having finished reading it, my opinion of it can not be any more honest.
The characters of this book are indulging albeit very 1 dimentional. We only see Carly being humaine and having all sorts of feelings; doubts to fears. The rest of the characters such as most of the Bowmans have just the aspect of villainy. Justin is just an ex with lingering interest. The old prof is a dead annoying piece of air and we only get a glipse of Tina, literally.
The wriring was sub par at best. Althought I must say I kept reading, this is mostly due to the plot of the story. If the wring, number of punctuation mistakes and sentence structure was changed then I think this book could really be a credit to the literature world.
I liked how the story unfolded. May gave been predicrable fur some but I like not to try to solve things myself and live with the characters. Hence at the end I found it to have quite a twist and actually found myself liking the book despite all its flaws.
I would like to thank the authir for writing it and I look forward to reading the next one. ( )

So much fun! I loved every minute I spent with Carly solving her exhusband’s murder. The book left me wanting to learn more about the Bowman family secrets, the town, and the characters. So glad this is book one of a series! ( )
