This story would be good for any age group, but it is more in line with k-3. This book contains a Choctaw tale told to the author by her grandmother. It is about a little girl who can paint with clouds in the sky, which is an old gift of the Choctaw people that has since disappeared, and when a man who runs a carnival tries to use her gift to make money she realizes how precious it is. Then years later her great-granddaughter is born with the same gift. I would absolutely love to have this book in my classroom. Not only does it tell a story that is important to the Choctaw people, but it is simple and innocent enough that you could teach it to Kindergarteners as an introduction into some of the Native American cultures. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
"Leona, a little Choctaw girl, is the first cloud painter to be born in generations. She likes nothing better than to use the big blue sky as a canvas to the delight of her people. Then a traveling man comes to town and invites the little cloud artist to join the carnival, and Leona must decide what kind of artist she is meant to be"--Jacket. This book is a story about a girl who discovers her special gift: the ability to paint in the clouds. We readers follow her journey as her goes to sell her gifts, before realizing that her beautiful talent is not meant to be sold to this who won't appreciate her gift.
This book would be a great read for students in the classroom, and also includes text in the author's native language as well (Choctaw). A story that may have underlying themes that relate to injustice treatment of the native communities.
