I have been an avid fan of Lady Mechanika and her exploits since I received her first comic at Free Comic Book Day. When I saw that there was an ARC for one of the comics I jumped at the chance. Once I picked up this comic there was no setting it down. From beginning to end the story captivated me and I had to know who was responsible for the ghastly murders that were happening. Aside from the amazing story line, the artwork was just as captivating. I have yet to be disappointed by how beautifully drawn these comics are, and the crazy detail that is included. Each crease of clothing, each button, everything is painstakingly drawn in an uber realistic way that draws you in and keeps you wanting more. I can say that there was absolutely nothing wrong with this comic, except that I wish it was longer. Lady Mechanika is a study of poise, power, and overwhelming intelligence. Enhanced with machinery she is unlike any other. Clockwork Assassin is fourth in the Lady Mechanika series. When scientists begin turning up murdered in a most horrible fashion, Lady Mechanika becomes the number one suspect. She's the only one strong enough, and uniquely equipped to have commited the crimes. To clear her name, Mechanika must find the true assailant, hopefully before he strikes again. The only clue is that the murdered men all once worked together on Project Sparta. This is the first of this series that I've read, and I'm eager to get ahold of the previous books! I loved the gorgeous, full-colour artwork. I'm a big steampunk and clockwork fan, and love mysteries, so this was a perfect fit for me. The story flowed well, and though this is the fourth book in, it felt whole and complete in itself. ***Many thanks to Netgalley and Diamond Books for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. This is the fourth book in the Lady Mechanika series. I didn’t like it quite as much as previous volumes in the series. I felt like there was a lot less action and a lot more “who done it” mystery type story. I continue to really enjoy the illustration and love the main characters. Someone is killing people who were involved in a secret device program and Lady Mechanika is being blamed because the assassin appears to have mechanical abilities. Lady Mechanika tries to help the police find the killer in order to clear her name. There are a ton of names and characters in the first few pages of this graphic novel; I thought given the rather simplistic plot that this just wasn’t needed and just took up page space. The plot is very simplistic and predictable. It’s supposed to be one of those twist turny “gotcha” type of mysteries but it just wasn’t. I really love the illustration style still. There is a lot of detail and the color pallette is deep and rich. The illustration is easy to follow and I enjoyed it. Overall this was an okay volume in the Lady Mechanika series. It was very short and the story/plot was a bit lacking. There is less action and more mystery solving. If the next volume is like this I will probably give up reading this series. You know what? There aren’t enough steampunk stories. Doubly so for graphic novels. I mean who doesn’t love cool steam based tech and gorgeous Victorian outfits? Well, thankfully there’s the Lady Mechanika series. Lady Mechanika Vol 4 by Joe Benitez, M.M. Chen, Beth Sotelo, Michael Heisler, and Martin Montiel is a steampunk graphic novel series with detectives, fabulous lady investigators, and some scientists closer to the evil genius side of things than is comfortable. Lady Mechanika Vol 4 is a classic murder mystery – or at least starts out that way. The volume opens with a murder, but not just any murder. A scientist and former friend of Archibald Lewis has been killed, bringing a past Mr. Lewis would rather forget rushing back. Inspector Singh is assigned to the investigation, which quickly goes from bad to worse. But the few witnesses there are all report a woman too strong and quick to be human, one with mechanical limbs. And the only person who fits the description is Lady Mechanika herself. This volume was a lot fun. We are once again in the capital city, following some familiar faces. The story really focuses on Mr. Lewis. As much as I liked him before, Mr. Lewis often was relegated to the role of funny sidekick. Here, he gets plenty of backstory and character development, fleshing out his character very well. He really takes a lead role in this volume, which was a welcome change. Not only do we learn a lot about him, we learn a lot about some of the other scientists working with mechanics. Familiar faces make appearances as well as many brand new ones. Despite this, we don’t necessarily learn much in regards to Lady Mechanika’s still hazy past, leaving questions on this front still unanswered. The art is, once again, very beautiful. The world is gorgeous, steeped in Victorian charm and fancy outfits. One of the reasons why I love the art is the beautiful outfits Lady Mechanika wears. However, I did find one or two of the outfits a little plainer than some of the previous volume. This isn’t any kind of make or break deal, but it is worth mentioning. Lady Mechanika Vol 4 was another solid entry in the series. If you like mysteries and steampunk I would suggest picking up this series. This graphic novel was sent by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Review originally found Looking Glass Reads. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
