A great book to share with little ones who've just had a baby sibling!Questa recensione è stata scritta per Recensori in anteprima di LibraryThing. Well needed representation and normalization of nursing amongst various species. Nostalgic illustrations outpace a stilted rhyming text. Questa recensione è stata scritta per Recensori in anteprima di LibraryThing. I love the idea of bilingual children's books, and I love animals, so this seemed like a great combination. Lovely watercolor-esque illustrations of various animal species nursing are accompanied by four-line rhymes in English. I'm not sure I would have chosen rhymes because a few of the verses seemed a little forced, but it's a minor quibble. There's also a "Did You Know?" section at the back of the books with animal facts that the adult reader can share with a child. All in all, a charming book. Questa recensione è stata scritta per Recensori in anteprima di LibraryThing. This was a beautiful book to read for normalizing nursing in a society which sometimes hides it. The poetry was a little forced sometimes but that is to be expected when trying to stay within the confines of such a specific topic. The illustrations were beautiful. The quality of the printing and binding should withstand a good bit of destruction by little hands! Questa recensione è stata scritta per Recensori in anteprima di LibraryThing. This book is perfect for a bilingual family for it to be read in both languages. Illustrations by Jim Fox accurately depict the animals in their environment without using cartoon like drawings. Animal facts are accurate in the text and especially in the bilingual Did You Know section at the end where this adult reader learned interesting facts. Overall I thought this book was interesting, though not everyone chooses to breast feed it is apart of natural life that should be embraced. My favorite part of the book were for sure the beautiful water color art work and all the informational facts, it would have been better if each fact would be on the appropriate page with the correct animal and not all complied in a list form in the back.
This stunning collaboration between a children's librarian and an NBA-player-turned-watercolor-artist introduces readers to a collection of baby animals doing what comes naturally--nursing. The luminous illustrations and lyrical, bilingual text give children a glimpse into the worlds of 13 different mammal babies. Compelling childhood facts broaden the reader's knowledge about each species. Facts include: newborn bats consume their own weight in milk every day, and polar bear cubs are so small that they fit between the toes on their mama's paw. The overarching theme of breastfeeding inspires conversations about parenting, biology, habitats, survival, and more, making this book an engaging choice for young children as well as elementary school readers.
