I thought this was a solid middle grade series. I did not love the pacing of this read but I grew to love the characters over the course of the book. I liked the magic elements of this book and also how this book dealt with many different types of family drama. It was slower book but one that still captured my attention, I did enjoy the main character and really am excited to see how he grows in future books in this series. I liked the magic elements of this book and also how this book dealt with many different types of family drama. It was slower book but one that still captured my attention, I did enjoy the main character and really am excited to see how he grows in future books in this series. The two stars are for the general idea and setting. Beyond that, I didn't enjoy it. The characters are flat and don't really develop, the plot is trope-heavy and a little muddled, and there's an awful lot of cruelty that's not given proper weight. For most of the book it's annoying, and because each page is so annoying you never really get to enjoy the ideas. Though it resolves itself a bit in the end, I'm consistently bothered by the interactions. Not something I'd ever give to my nephew. Rich vocabulary, characterization and use of mythology convey this story of a young boy learning to challenge himself to be brave and claim his magical inheritance -- the role of Storm Keeper for Arranmore, the Irish island where his family is from. I felt deeply all of Fionn's trials and triumphs. I loved his relationship with his Grandfather. The struggles with his sister, himself and his friends are definitely ones that children can relate to. The villains portray evils that kids this age will want to conquer. The folklore, geography and symbolism would be fun to explore. I loved it! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
