Too much insta love and plot holes for me to really like it. A nice easy read though. "Imposters" was just what I needed for complete immersion. Scott Westerfeld laid out a simple, believable premise, put it in his Post-Pretties Universe, and ran. I enjoyed it. Enjoyed this return to the "Uglies" universe (is that really what were calling it?) though I didnt find the culture of the cities as interesting as that in Extras. I loved the Uglies series and I guess I was hoping this would be equally as good. There was nothing terribly wrong with it but I just felt it was missing impact. I wasn’t ever fully immersed or engaged or excited by what I was reading; I felt like I was being told more than being shown. It just left me feeling like something was missing that is usually present in Westerfeld’s writing. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
In a world that is rapidly descending into chaos, Frey and Rafi are twin sisters, but few people know of Frey's existence, because she has been raised to be her sister's body double and lethal bodyguard, while Rafi has been raised to further the family's political power--but when their father sends Frey in her sister's place as collateral in a tricky deal, Col, the son of a rival leader, gets close enough to begin to suspect something, and Frey must decide whether to deal with him violently or finally assume her own identity. Sigh. Sigh. Sigh. UGLIES is actually one of my favourite books ever. UGLIES and PRETTIES. SPECIALS was good, EXTRAS was fine, but UGLIES and PRETTIES, man, they were just gold. Pure gold.
So I'm kinda sad because this wasn't anywhere close to UGLIES level. This is solid. This is fine. But it felt more like a historical fantasy than a dystopian sci-fi, and it felt nothing as magical and fantastic and believable as UGLIES did. I wanted more of the politics, more explanation of how the families had come up, more explanation of the technologies they'd created and the various alliances. Very pacy though, and I enjoyed the characters.
Best aspect? Definitely the language they use. I forgot how much I adored that, how I'd previously adopted some. (
