A simple but poetic text is paired with brightly-colored collage artwork in this picture-book celebration of flowers and the seasons from author/artist Michael Garland. Beginning with snowdrops and crocuses, the first flowers of the early spring, the book describes various beautiful blooms and the creatures which rely upon them, concluding with the chrysanthemums of late autumn. An afterword gives more details about each type of flower... The rhyming text of A Season of Flowers reads quite well, while the colorful artwork grabs the eye, making this one that might work well as a read-aloud selection. I loved the use of color here, and the patterned/textured feeling of the illustrations. The informative afterword provides that little bit of extra information, for young readers/listeners who want to know more. Recommended to all young flower lovers, and to anyone looking for new picture-books about the changing of the seasons. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Snowdrops and crocuses yield to tulips and hyacinths, then dogwood blossoms, iris, lupine, daisies, morning glories, daylilies, geraniums, peonies, sunflowers, roses, and chrysanthemums as spring passes to summer, then autumn. At last the garden slumbers into winter under a blanket of snow, preparing next year s procession of blooms. Like actors crossing a stage, flowers narrate the passing seasons in the first person, each one briefly proclaiming its unique and vital role in the natural world. It's a non-fiction book perfect for those who love nature and flowers. It starts with the first flowers that grow in spring and it progresses from there. There are irises, peonies, sunflowers, etc. And the animals that are represented.....it is the illustrations of THEM that might be my favorite of all. See what I mean when you come across the page with the deer.
It would work in a storytime. It would also work in a home setting. ( )
