I really enjoyed this book for many reasons. First, I love the topic of this informational picture book. I have also been very fond of ocean life and oceanic creatures and I have found that young children are intrigued with them as well. I also really enjoyed the real-life pictures used in the book. I liked that they were actual real aquatic animals and not cartoons or drawings. I think using realistic pictures makes it more informational and educational for young children to learn about the topic at hand. In addition, the page includes a large almost-full-page picture of the animal and a small section that includes the text in the book which is in bright, vibrant colors. Another reason why I enjoyed this story was the easy-to-read words. This book would be intended for kindergarten through second grade and the easy decodable words make it an easier beginner book for children learning to read. However, it also includes a “grown up” topic which could be used for more mature beginning readers. Another element I enjoyed about this story was the glossary of unfamiliar terms included in the end of the book. The main idea of this story is educate young, beginning readers about ocean life. ( )

This book is about many different things you might see in the ocean. I liked the pictures and the descriptions about each animal. I really like how they also give the pronunciation of each big word they use. I feel like the book kind of jumped around talking about facts. Not a favorite of mine. ( )
