Combining the emotional deftness of Sarah Dessen with the magical spark of New York City in wintertime, this affecting novel will inspire readers to pay closer attention to the world around them.

What does it really mean to be kind . . . and why does it sometimes feel like the hardest thing in the world to do?

High school senior Kendall, who just returned from a life-changing semester in Europe, and Max, who is drifting his way through a gap year before college, struggle with these questions when they witness a tragic accident in New York City during the holiday season.

Racked with guilt, the two accept a dare to perform random acts of kindness to strangers. The challenge pulls these two teens, who have a history together from back home, closer and closer as they explore a vibrant city filled with other people's stories and secrets.

Kendall and Max can't deny their growing bond, even though they both have other romantic entanglements and uncertain futures. As the clock counts down on New Year's Eve, will they find themselves together at midnight?

Jennifer Castle's latest novel is a romantic, thought-provoking tale of human connection and how we findâ??and makeâ??our place in the world… (altro)

*I got this as an e arc from the publisher*
I thought this was adorable holiday romance. I really thought it was quick read and I really loved the structure of the book. I thought the characters were compelling and I loved all the various POV we got but I would have liked more from the characters we saw in one chapter. I am also a sucker for accomplishing a mission books in YA novels. It was super fun read and I read it so fast. I thought that characters were relatable and it did address harder issues but the issues addressed could have been clearer. I also wanted a stronger ending and one that gave me closure! But I would def read this this holiday season when it comes out in Jan!

This was a cute, fun, holiday read. I liked how Max and Kendall were challenged to perform seven acts of random kindness over five days after witnessing an accident where they both stood and watched without helping. Having the points of view from the recipients was a nice touch and allowed the reader to see how Max and Kendall's kindness affected them in a positive way.

The awkwardness between Max and Kendall at the start was touching and I liked how their friendship grew and developed. Although the plot was rather cliche, and the ending should have included an epilogue to tie up the loose ends, overall, "Together at Midnight" had some nice lessons in it. ( )

The perfect winter read, Together at Midnight tells the story of two teens who take on the challenge of performing random acts of kindness for strangers around New York City after they themselves witness a tragic accident where they failed to help.

Max and Kendall were great main characters to read about. Max is already pretty selfless, always putting others first and often delaying his own life to benefit his friends and family. Kendall is adventurous, outgoing, and compassionate, always ready to take on a challenge. It was really interesting to me that two characters who were basically already good, mostly selfless people would have trouble intervening in a situation where someone needed help. I really liked the fact that they both addressed this problem and wondered themselves why they or any other bystanders didn’t step in. Maybe it was a situation where every witness thought someone else would help. Maybe it all happened so fast, no one could really process and react appropriately. Maybe it’s embarrassing or hurtful when you step in to aide someone and they dismiss you like it’s nothing. I think what I appreciated the most was that they mulled over these theories and more and sought out to rectify the situation. In the end, they both become better, more observant and willing to help, no matter how the outcome affects them personally.

I also loved the relationship that developed between the two of them as the story progressed. Both were involved in other romantic entanglements or bits of melodrama, focusing at first on a potential crush for Kendall, and an ex-girlfriend of Max. But in the end, the more time they spent together and grew together, the more they realized where and who they were supposed to be.

The ending is a bit bittersweet, but definitely satisfying with an outlook of hope, for not only these two characters but humanity in general. Together at Midnight is a sweet, wintery read that will leave you feeling warm-hearted and ready to do something good.
