I just completed the 5th book. I feel like the series is finally FINALLY filling out. I’ll be honest, I nearly walked away after the first book. I mean it felt like I was just reading some form of porn. I stuck it out though bc I’m ocd about finishing books I start and the audio I have paired 1&2 together. So I continued. 2 felt the tiniest bit better so I read 3 hoping the author would catch their stride. Book 4.... what the heck do I just read/listen to? Anyway, there is a book series I absolutely loved that was split up the same way this one was. I read somewhere that that series the first several books were meant to be one but the publisher insisted it be split up. (Idiotic). The thing about that series though, was that the first 4 were meh until book 5 (the first that didn’t get paired. Book 5 their was where I really felt the story began to move and progress but none of book 5 would have been nearly as good without the background from the previous four. I know it seems like I’m rambling but I have a point. By book 2 I decided to view this series the same way.

In my head I told myself the paired books (1 2,3 4, & 5 6) really should be just 1 really big book. As individual books, each of the first four would have annoyed me. But by looking at them as parts of one, I think I mostly liked it... (the chaos at the end of 4 throws me a bit). Book five finally felt like a full single instalment. The start was still a bit drawn out but it almost had to be to give the basic “intro to next book and reminder of prev” info dump. I also appreciate that while there still is a TON of sex, it feels more like those moments serve a purpose in the story rather than sex just to up the word/page count.

I am mostly glad I stuck it out this far and am looking forward to book 6. (Which I started 5 minutes after finishing book 5.) ( )
