A Beauty and the Beast Re-telling with a Mythological Irish Twist

Awe I do love all things Beauty and The Beast and re-tellings are no exception! I have read Hamm’s first retelling: ‘Gilded Rose’ and I have too often remind myself that the latter and Heart of the Fae are by the same author. While I did enjoy Gilded Rose, Heart of the Fae is on another level.
I like to think of this story as more of Beauty and the Beast mixed with Brave. Every time I picture the heroine Sorcha I see Merida. That same strong willed -“I’ll be shootin’ for me own hand!’ attitude is something I feel they share as well as the fact that Sorcha is described to have long ringlets of fire orange hair and a creamy completion that is famous amongst the Irish. The beautiful Irish scenery, the folklore and mythology weaved into a tale as old as time left me with all the original fairytale feels whilst enveloping me into a new story all its own.
From the Seelie Fae to the brownies, dwarfs and pixies each and everyone of the creatures both dark and dreamy welcome you into their world and put a spell on your heart.
It was an adventure from start to finish and true to Hamm’s style she paints the most beautiful and whimsical lands that my imagination thrives on! My favorite fantasy novels are the kind that can pluck you out of reality and transport you to another. This like many of Emma’s books do just that. Its a fairytale to be rivaled and thou I’m not one to usually reread books I can see myself revisiting this world and all the luscious fantasy it wraps you in. ( )
