Kit is a seventeen year old resident of a megacity in the future that is situated in Southern California, roughly where Los Angeles and San Francisco are presently. For such a young age she has been through a lot including her parents' deaths when she was five, an abusive uncle, poverty, attacks from rival corporations and the loss of her first love. She is still reeling from that loss which occurred at the end of Book Two but she wants to help the insurgents who are trying to sustain the people who live on the lower levels of San Angeles. She has also promised the doctor who has patched her up numerous times that she will find his physicist son, Bryson Searls. At the same time she has discovered she is pregnant and she desperately wants to keep and protect her baby. Her adventures take her to the top levels of San Angeles and even up to space with many close calls along the way.
Any one who likes a good hard science fiction tale should be riveted by this book and the previous two. ( )
