The earl of Furness is disgusted by his daughter Joanne.Shes slovenly,fat and has just assaulted the man he was hoping would marry her and take her off his hands. Also he hates her for killing her mother indirectly through complications at her birth.

He comes up with the idea to dump her on a man he knows from his soldier days.Keynton the man inte question gets the mistaken idea that its Furness SON who is coming to stay.He is taken by surprise when Lady Joanne arrives and she goes berserk and bites him.






I didnt love the hero in this book nor did I hate him.Hes just very bland.Also there is something else the plot rests on changing Joanne.I find that often in the romances I love the hero and heroine change each other be it ever in some little way. Since Kenton is already so perfect(ly boring )in what way can he change? He is kept back from telling Joanne he loves her because he believes she see him as a father figure.

Joanne is very tortured because of the emotional neglect her father has put her through.She resist at first Keynton s scheme to make her into a lady/a functioning human being.

So its just very strange to read the bit where Joanne says she loves Keynton...like a father.And then not to find it weird..when she decides she loves him in a not-father way.
