What a fascinating take on “Sir WW” – who is clearly identified in the story but never named. His initials, the reference to the Battle of Stirling Bridge (1297), and his absolute devotion to Scottish freedom should make things clear enough. Then the additional pointer, mentioned by the narrator who is an immortal time-travelling vampire, removes even the last bit of doubt: “…the moving picture where he’ll star. The quotes a solid fan base would continue to utter decades after the movie…”

Magnus may be immortal, and he may be stronger than any man around since he is a vampire, but he loves submitting to Sir WW. As he says when he tells the story of one of their many nights together, it is “The kind unfit for wee ones and the sort patriots wouldn’t like hearing.” Even though this is a paranormal fantasy, it all sounds entirely plausible. Magnus belongs to Sir WW and will enjoy every night they have together. Even knowing what happens does not stop him, and I admired him for his reasoning as to why he would not make Sir WW a vampire as well – even though I’d definitely love to read that version of events!

If you enjoy vampires who explore history, if two men coming together for some “forbidden” activities in the deepest night sound interesting, and if you’re looking for a very hot, kinky tale with a slightly bittersweet touch, then you will probably like this short story. I loved it!
