For years I have given Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet, as a graduation gift for high school and college grads. I will add this book as well. A short book of thoughts from an Eastern religion, which, like The Prophet, expands the mind for easy contemplation. Truisms like the ones printed here are a good introduction to non-Christian ideas. "Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared." or "Charity is rich in returns; charity is the greatest wealth, for though it scatters, it brings no repentance."

There are many good photographs, but the water color images that also illustrate this book are worth the cost of the book itself. The image of a cat watching golden carp on page 44 is enough for any cat lovers around.

Recommended for personal purchase and as a gift book. Have some good thoughts! ( )
