But this is the kind of love story where the main character realizes she can make a choice, for the better. Love herself, knowing that some day, true love will come. For now, she’s taking a break from romcom movies. I wish we learned more about Harry’s relationship with his family. Left me as the reader frustrated that more backstory wasn’t revealed. The drama between the divorced parents is very relatable, coming from a divorced family. Some of those scenes reminded me of things my family went through as a kid of divorce. Definitely some trigger warnings. ( ) It Only Happens in the Movies by Holly Bourne is an easy read because the plot is just like a romance novel and is very fast paced. The main character, Aubrey, is against romance and falling in love because of her parents impending divorce and the recent breakup she had with her boyfriend. She has sworn off the corny, sappy love stories in movies and instead cannot even imagine accepting the compliments and pickup lines from her coworker, Harry. She does everything she can to keep from falling for his charms, but eventually she thaws and discovers love and friendship can exist. This was very different from what I expected. I expected a regular trashy romance but what I actually got was some kind of teeny romance… I wrote quite a bit more, originally, but decided not to elaborate because I’d very likely do this book an injustice. 14-year-old me probably would have liked this. Thirty-one years later, I simply found a book I’m too old for. Blog | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram As much as I loved this book, I also didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would, partly because I kept having flashbacks to my own days of working in a cinema even though it was nowhere near as cool as Flicker. But like all of Holly's books, this one makes you stop and think about things in an entirely different way, and I did enjoy the journey it takes you on, esp the ending. And the whole “I’m over love” and how it changed! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Audrey gave up on romance before meeting aspiring filmmaker Harry at the cinema where they work, but soon they are deeply in love--and not like it is portrayed in movies. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
