I feel like the ending was somewhat rushed. ( )

This book is the final book of the Micheal Vey series and let me tell you its an amazing story. It is not a disappointing ending with all the suspense building up to the glorious final moment where all the problems resolve themselves. IT has a happy ending. Along the way of the series many surprises and encounters come up and keeps you interested in the series. I really recommend.

Three stars, and the third is for bonus points for the series finally being over.
This series could have been an awesome trilogy or quartet, but SEVEN BOOKS?! That’s such overkill.
I have been reading these books for SEVEN YEARS. And all I can say is that I am so glad this series is over.
Too many Michael Vey is the only one who can save us moment. None of the other characters were really well developed. Ostin was basically the exposition guy, Taylor the token hot girlfriend, Jack the basic jock, Quentin, Tara, Torstyn, Zeus, Cassy, Tessa, Ian, Abigail, Grace, Nichelle, and McKenna (Did I forget anyone?), who all had such great potential, we’re side characters who were basically just there for convenience.
And the grand finale? Like one chapter, like five pages. Way. Too. Easy.
Also, why was Zara necessary? She was lame, and did like one thing. So many characters came in, had a spurt of character arc, and then subsided into the background.
CAN PEOPLE JUST STAY DEAD?! PLEASE?!
This was totally rambling and probably makes absolutely no sense, but I will not be suggesting these books to anyone, because they are so cheesy and cliche, and I’m so glad they’re finally over and I don’t have to worry about getting the next book to see what new horrors RPE has in store for us. ( )

What...what was that? What on earth was that?

I came in the series late, right around before the fifth book was published, and I loved the beginning books. For older middle-schoolers or young high-schoolers, I would have recommended it.

Note the past tense: would have.

However, as the series went on, I began to cringe more and more at every chapter. The Electroclan went from having clear, decisive missions to being lazy couch potatoes who didn't seem to have a directive except to flirt with each other and escape various attempts by the villain, James Hatch, to capture them. (Also, who names a villain after a type of pepper?)

And about that villain. Hatch is one of those psycho types - you know the ones - who kills so many of his own troops as displays of his power that it's a wonder that any of them still follow his lead. Oh wait, the flesh-eating rats. Good healthy stuff for eight-graders to read.

Do villains, the well-written ones, do this? Yes, yes they do, but there's a fine line between instilling fear and respect into your underlings and all out murdering your army because you can't seem to kill the hero team and you have to take your frustration out on someone. If you murder your army, you have no army, and then you can't really conquer the world, now can you?

A good villain knows how to multitask. He or she (a well-written villainess makes the book an amazing read) knows the value of intimidation, but they also realize that fear of the head honcho needs to be balanced with tempting rewards in order to most effectively control their minions.

Finally, in this particular book, what was up with ending? *spoiler* So Michael died, but not really, and he happened to return at just the right moment to defeat Hatch all deus ex machina style? And why was his father, who was still alive the entire time for some reason (shocker), dragged into the mess only in the last book? Whatever that revelation's purpose was, it came off feeling like a cheap trick to shock readers. Also, if Taylor went 'missing' according to all local news agencies, how did her return to school with Michael and Ostin in the very end of the book not raise any eyebrows or even cause a minor news story? In fact, after all that's happened, how does the story of literal super-beings existing not get out?

This series had a great premise and a promising start, but it really feels like after the first four books received some praise and notice, the author just got lazy and wrote whatever he wanted, convinced that readers would eat it up regardless.

To some extent, he succeeded, since I bought the entire series on kindle. But after devouring the final three books, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth and a bit of regret for what the series might have been. ( )
