The Tarot talks . . . but is anyone listening? In the heart of South West London, just a short stroll from the Thames, lies an enclosed and overgrown bike path and a single row of cottages. Foremost among Tinderbox Lane's hotchpotch of loyal residents is professional Tarot reader, Dolly Greene: divorced and permanently broke, she shares her tiny house with her 21-year-old daughter Pippa. When, one stiflingly hot summer's day, Dolly reads the cards for the hedonistic Nikki, her usually professional patter is interrupted by a sudden vision - a flash of Nikki's face, covered in blood and bruises. A few days later, when the body of a battered woman is washed up by Chiswick Bridge, Dolly is haunted by the belief that Nikki's time may have come . . . but can she be sure? And how far is Dolly prepared to go to act on her intuition? 'It's a pleasure to be in the company of Ms Dolly Greene. She's smart, warm-hearted and a touch psychic - perfect qualities for a sleuth.' Frances Brody 'This book is a must read for any Tarot enthusiast or indeed, any whodunnit fan.' Avril Price, Tarot Consultant, College of Psychic Studies, London 'Agatha Christie fans will love The Prime of Ms Dolly Greene' Yours… (altro)

Acquired this and its sequel from a charity and it was a light hearted read, despite the odd body along the way. It's about Dolly, a middle-aged divorcee, living in a one bedroom mews cottage with Pippa, her university-attending daughter, who has broken up with a boyfriend and moved back home. Having to share a bed with Pippa is enough to put a blot on Dolly's chances of romance but in fact a low-key one does kindle between her and a nice police sergeant, Raff.

Dolly is trying to earn a living by reading Tarot cards, something she is good at, especially since her readings are often supplemented by premonitions about her clients, which can be visions or in the form of sounds or smells. Thus she becomes concerned about a woman who visits her early on in the story, especially when an unidentified body is found in the river and she can't get an answer on the phone to the client.

The minor characters, of which there are several including Dolly's neighbours, are all well realised especially those who are unpleasant. Something is wrong with Dolly's long-time neighbour, Maurice, but it is only late in the book that it becomes clear exactly what was bothering him all along. I did find the denouement a little rushed. But overall an entertaining read which I award 3 stars. I would warn anyone though, given this book's description as a cosy mystery, that it does contain a lot of full-blown swearing which I know is not to everyone's taste. ( )

Dolly Greene is coping with life, living in a small cottage down a small lane in London, she knows her neighbours fairly well.and reads Tarot cards for a living. Currently her daughter is living with her (and sharing her bed, it's a very small house) wondering if she will ever find love again. During one of her readings she has a flash of vision; the woman she's reading for with bruises and blood on her face. When she hears a woman's body has washed up nearby she worries about the woman she read for. Then her neighbour starts behaving strangely before dying and one of the investigating policemen may be more interesting to her than first glance, her life becomes complicated and it's all very busy.

It's entertaining and fun and a good cosy mystery. I'm looking forward to more in this series. ( )
