The interviews from which the information in "A Hmong Family" came where administered in 1995. It may be interesting to find out how Hmong children feel about the information today. ( ) The Hmong family described in Nora Murphy's book lived in the jungle, on communist farms, and in a refugee camp before making it to America where they have started a whole new life. I think younger readers will find many of the stories in this book interesting because of the danger and because of the differing culture. The book would fit in during a unit on different cultures in America. Murphy has nicely put in a pronunciation guide for interested readers. The index, though, seems unnecessary and unhelpful. There is no bibliography and the further reading section is very outdated for readers today. I would use this book to show a different culture, but I would not use it as a research tool. I would look elsewhere for that purpose. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Sure to enliven social studies classes, the Journey Between Two Worlds series shares the difficult and often dangerous life of the members of a refugee family in their native country and describes their subsequent journey to the United States. Readers will learn how the family has adjusted to a new culture while still preserving the traditions of their homeland. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
