Ha ha, this was assigned as a reading for some dude's talk at my friend's free school and I was like "Oh, Dan's friend assigned his own shitty reading, that's cool," but it's not about ("about") Trump, it's Guattari from 1973 arguing that "Nazi Germany wasn't monolithic" (let it be noted in fairness, which cuts both ways, this was after Mommsen's "weak dictator" thesis had become known but before it had become consensus) and that fascism's strength/weakness is the way it becomes/has to become all things to all people or have something for everybody while maintaining coherence. It's utterly old news, in other words, and while I can't quite jump back to 1973 and know how this would have been received in Guattari anti-psych circles or whether the now-familiar weak Hitler reading was limited at the time more to Germany and/or to historians, blah blah, I still feel a sense of letdown and wonder if it really was Deleuze carrying the side all along (where I think there is a tendency to make him the big philosopher-skull over the obscurities committed in the name of the duo and see Guattari as somehow bringing some quasi-medical objectivity).
