Fiction. Suspense. Thriller. HTML:

In the summer of 2006, Emma Price watched helplessly as her six-year-old son's red coat was fished out of the River Ouse. It was the tragic story of the year - a little boy, Aiden, wandered away from school during a terrible flood, fell into the river, and drowned.
His body was never recovered.
Ten years later, Emma has finally rediscovered the joy in life. She's married, pregnant, and in control again...
... until Aiden returns.
Too traumatized to speak, he raises endless questions and answers none. Only his body tells the story of his decade-long disappearance. The historic broken bones and injuries cast a mere glimpse into the horrors Aiden has experienced. Aiden never drowned. Aiden was taken.
As Emma attempts to reconnect with her now teenage son, she must unmask the monster who took him away from her. But who, in their tiny village, could be capable of such a crime?
It's Aiden who has the answers, but he cannot tell her the unspeakable.
This dark and disturbing psychological novel is a page-turner you will not be able to put down.
What readers are saying about Silent Child:
"Everyone, buy this book, it's brilliant. I just kept reading it, instead of cleaning. Now I'm sad it's ended."
"A tense, haunting story which I had to finish in one sitting."
"What a fantastic read. Kept me on the edge of my seat 'til the end."
"One of the best books I have read. I stayed up most of the night to read it."
"I read this book from cover to cover in one sitting. It's been a long time since a book has captivated me so much to do that. Gripping and full of twists and turns."

It's a pity that the plot is so holey, because I liked the protagonist and her son. She is a strong woman, with a believable inner world. He is a traumatised boy, not too outlandish as a character in a thriller novel.
The problem is that this woman needs a blessing, or to rethink her method in choosing the people around her. So does her son.

HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD

COME ON. On the same day, this boy is encouraged to leave the school during a flood cum storm by the teacher, pushed into the river by a psycho who brainwashed the teacher because he wanted to possess mommy with a long-term homicidal plan, AND THEN is fished and imprisoned for ten years by an unrelated, random psycho rapist who happened to be the husband of mommy's bestie. Seriously, my suspension-of-disbelief machine just grinded to a halt in a cloud of oily smoke.
Three stars all the same, because I really liked the main character, and because the writing was solid. Good brainless entertainment with a deeper look at how women are often judged severely even for their traumas, but the improbable double twist and the happy bloody ending require a certain degree of sense of humour not to throw the book from the window. This book was great, as a mother it is absolutely one of the most horrific things that your child could go through, I bawled my eyes out, I felt everything this mom and child did, I couldn't imagine going through any of it. ( )

Sarah has a true grasp for detail. I felt like I was in the same place in which the story took place. This is the first book I've read written by her. I will definitely be reading more.
This story was very well written. It kept me in suspense until the end. It's one of those books you don't want to put down! ( )

Mediocre mystery. Rather predictable with kind of a thin plot. ( )
