This early reader provides children with wonderful insight into a day in the life of a firefighter, Rob Green. The photography is vivid and helps young readers put the text in context. Picture words are provided on the pages that have specific Tier 3 vocabulary words related to firefighting which is helpful for understanding new vocabulary words. There is a wide range of activities included from - checking equipment, making dinner, providing a tour of the firehouse to of course a fire.

This is a wonderful early reader for young children who are interested in learning more about what firefighters do while at the same time practicing their reading skills. I think this is a wonderful resource to help students understand what firefighters do. There are many options to encourage further research on firefighting or community service. ( )

This is another book from the Dorling Kindersley Program. There are other titles in the Day in the Life series and they all have high quality photos in them. The others also use pictures to connect unfamiliar words with their real life counter parts. All of the titles show people from diverse backgrounds in a positive light. ( )

Accurately portrays real-life situations that help young children identify with and learn from while helping them improve their reading skills. Talks about how the firefighters do things during the day.

This easy reader is about what firefighters do each day. When the fire alarm goes off the Rob Green and the other firefighters hurriedly get their gear on and start the truck. Can they get there in time to save a little’s girl dog?

I like this story because it goes along with community helpers which young children should learn about.

I would use this book with Pre-K to First grade. I would have the Pre-K and Kindergarten students do a KWL chart. I would have the first graders help me read and then draw me one part of the story. Writing in their own words what they would say about it making a class book. ( )

I'm a fan of DK books.

They're simple. They're informative. They're cheap. If your child is too young to read, they're perfectly good read-aloud books.

What more can you ask for when stocking your kid's library?

As you might expect, this book takes us through a day in a firefighter's life. The sentences are short and direct. This makes them easy to read, and it also makes the book more exciting.

The fire in the book (you knew there had to be one) is not especially scary, and is dealt with quickly. More detail is given to the more usual routine - cleaning, taking a class on a tour to talk about fire safety, that sort of thing.

I very much recommend this book for small children. ( )
