Super-intelligent furry aliens suddenly appear from another universe. And they've come to earth to have fun. "Louie" follows fisherman Billy Morton home one day and he and his family come quickly to love the playful alien. But when Louie starts using their computer to hack into government and corporate networks, and steal millions from banks to give to others, they realize that Louie and his friends mean trouble. Funny and light, Invasion does drag a little in its length. There are definitely some parts that are extraneous or could have been edited down a little. Though I am of the political and social leanings that Rhinehart apparently is (or at least his FFs and main characters are), he does hit his points a little hard and I wouldn't recommend this for someone with opposing views.

There was one issue that bothered me throughout the novel, however. I usually don't notice this kind of stuff, but Rhinehart's female characters are extremely lacking. There's absolutely no reason for Carlita to be 25 years younger than Billy (except for weird male wish fulfillment, I suspect), and Karen serves no purpose other than to become pregnant at the end of the novel. These are the only two main female characters in the novel, and they only once interact. Before that, I'm not sure if they're ever even in the same room. They were just there for Billy to ogle at, which is gross and an attitude we should have moved beyond by now. ( )

Took me awhile to wade through this. I purchased this book after reading the sample provided through Amazon. I regret doing so. It was well written in terms of grammar and spelling, but that is all. I had high hopes. If I pick up another book by this author it will be either through the library or a bin where the money I donate will go to charity, not the author/publishing company. ( )

I just couldn't finish it. The premise is interesting, but with no subtly about the message, and incredibly card board characters, I lost interest around the half way point.

I think this style of writing would have worked a lot better as a short story - as a full length novel, its the same thing over and over and over again, with no character growth.

Luke Rhinehart will always be The Dice Man. But for this well-written political satire for the way we live now, the invasion of earth by a race of humanistic, non-violent hairy balls is trying to be the Sixties for our times. Nice thought, bit of a stretch. ( )
