There is a powerful attraction in reading the private letters of individuals I admire, and there are in these letters some revealing passages although on the whole the editors have been tactful in their selections. The letters, written over a span of 60 some years are portraits of nonviolent action, prophetic witness and the often messy processes of discerning what to do and then living with the fallout. Reading this book grew my appreciation for and admiration of Phil and Dan Berrigan. ( )
