( ) America's Best Breakfasts: Favorite Local Recipes From Coast to Coast by Lee Brian Schrager and Adeena Sussman is a love note to breakfast foods and anyone who relates to Leslie Knope's love for waffles on Parks & Recreation. The book is divided into 6 sections. We start with the West Coast & Pacific Northwest, move on to the Midwest, the South and the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. There's also a whole section on How to Get Perfect Eggs Every Time and Sunday, Bloody Sunday. There were a couple of reasons that I chose this book to review (besides my love for breakfast food any day or night). The first is because three of the recipes included in this book are from restaurants in my hometown - Philadelphia (two of which I am a frequent visitor) and the second is because out of all the cookbooks I own, the ones I actually use tend to either be breakfast related or dessert. Therefore, the probability of me using the recipes in this book is already higher than other cookbooks. I could list all the recipes I've marked in this book to make but that would make this blog ridiculous long and boring. So let's just talk about the two recipes I plan on making in the near future. Cake Donuts from Federal Donuts, Philadelphia Federal Donuts is an amazing, wonderful place. If you are a fan of cake donuts or fried chicken and you are in Philadelphia you must visit Federal Donuts. When you walk in to Federal Donuts your senses will heightened because it's not going to know whether to focus on the sweet smell of hot fresh sugary wonderful donuts or the savory korean-styled fried chicken. Federal Donuts offer two different style of donuts - Hot Fresh which is self-explanatory and you can get it in either in Vanilla Spice, Strawberry Lavender or Cinnamon Brown Sugar which is my personal favorite. You can also get it in Fancy which is are dipped in glaze. The recipe in the book calls for ingredients that are already in my pantry with the exception of probably buttermilk. But it seems reasonably easy to make and would make a great weekend project. Instead of pumpkin spice I would probably opt for Cinnamon Brown Sugar. Cannoli French Toast from Cafe Lift, Philadelphia Back in March before I even got this book, I actually reviewed Cafe Lift in my Hungry Girl's Guide to Brunch in Philadelphia. There's a few places in Philadelphia where I will voluntarily wait for an hour to get a table and Cafe Lift is definitely in my top 5. Cafe Lift is a brunch all day place. They only serve brunch menu with a ton of seasonal specials. I've probably tried almost everything in their menu and their cannoli french toast and lemon ricotta pancakes are worth the journey into center city, finding parking and waiting an hour. Yes, I will make this recipe and shamelessly post it on Instagram. With any recipes in this book I find there's an emphasis on using seasonal and local ingredients which I appreciate. My favorite part besides the recipes are the intro section on each recipes that talks about the inspiration for the dish. I'm actually excited to be using this cookbook and hopefully I'll get to play around in the kitchen and whip up some of the recipes and share it with you soon. Until next time, Jessica I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review, no other compensation was received. Most products on my blog have been purchased by me (unless stated like this one) and I will be honest about my reviews and will only work with brands who truly have great products. America's Best Breakfasts is a celebration of two honored American traditions--hitting the open road and enjoying the endless variety of breakfasts. Even without a roadtrip, you can sample the Croque Monsieur Sandwiches from Tartine in San Francisco, Kimchi Pancakes from Sunshine Tavern in Portland, Filipino Steak and Eggs with Garlic Fried Rice from Uncle Mike's in Chicago, or Morning Glory Muffins from Panther Coffee in Miami right in your home kitchen.
