This is the eighth and final Inspector Richardson book and is probably the best of this police detective series from the 1930s. In each book of the series, Richardson moves up the heirarchy. In the previous two books, he only played a peripheral role reading reports and approving travel expenses. In this book, he plays a more active role as the action moves between France and England. Start with the first book in the series and read them all. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Even though I’ve read all but one in this short series, I still find them somewhat less than great. He plots are good; the procedures are just right (author Thomson spent many years as a high official at Scotland Yard); but…there’s really no emotional involvement. They’re just puzzles to be solved. Inspector Richardson is a man to admire, but even he is fairly muted.
Here, a beautiful young woman is murdered and the police must follow a obscure set of clues, and work with France’s Surete as well.
Sort of recommended. ( )
