Most of us know we own too much stuff. We feel the weight and burden of our clutter, and we tire of cleaning and managing and organizing. While excess consumption leads to bigger houses, faster cars, fancier technology, and cluttered homes, it never brings happiness. Rather, it results in a desire for more. It redirects our greatest passions to things that we can never fulfill, and it distracts us from the very life we wish we were living. But it doesn't have to be this way. In The More of Less, Joshua Becker helps you: recognize the life-giving benefits of owning less, realize how all the stuff you own is keeping you from pursuing your dreams, craft a personal, practical approach to decluttering your home and life, experience the joys of generosity, learn why the best part of minimalism isn't a clean house; it's a full life. It's time to own your possessions instead of letting them own you. After all, the beauty of minimalism isn't in what it takes away. It's in what it gives.… (altro)

Could have been shorter.
I could have done without the biblical stories. ( )

One long lecture about life, decluttering, minimalist lifestyle. I sped it up (audiobook) to 1.8 just to get through it. Not very practical advice to me. ( )

Excellent discussion of both the practical approaches to a minimalist life, as well as the fruits of following such a path. ( )

This book is the "Bible" of minimalism! Read it. practice it, give it as a gift to as many people as you can! Forget the rest of the organizing books and just get your copy of this one!!!!!!

I especially appreciated this for the Christian perspective on minimalism--which was unexpected, as I didn't infer from the description that the book was written from a religious perspective. He talks about how the process of decluttering can be charitable if you give to those in need and designate some of your cast offs for homeless shelters, crisis pregnancy centers, or sell all you have and give the money to the poor. In addition to the rich young ruler, Becker also helpfully draws illustrations from Solomon, Christ, and other biblical characters. Finally, he discusses how a more streamlined life can provide more time for volunteering.

This book is about a lot more than this--it definitely covers the minimalist essentials--but the insight from Christian faith is what made it stand out to me. ( )
