Hopefully there is more detail as to why the serums, in particular, are used in future books. I also thought there was a little bit too much conversation during scenes full of action (good or bad). Sure, you might exchange some words, but having a conversation is stretching it. Anyway, overall it is a good read if you enjoy paranormal romance, and I'm sure reading the next books in the series will help fill in any holes in the background information. (  ) AngelaJMaher | Jun 18, 2018 | ~ 2.5 Blood Flame Stars ~ Blood Flame is book one in the Flame series by Caris Roane. This one started out good, but the more I read the more some things just did not work for me. It is an interesting concept and world that these characters live in. There are five alter species, which are genetic mutations of some drug that runs free/un-checked, so the people are not changed by there choosing. We never find out how this drug got started and all these creatures vampires, witches, shifters, wizards, and fae got put into this world. There is a little world building and what we do learn is not nice. This world is dark and corruption runs deep in all five areas of the zones the supernaturals now live in. Many of the species do not play nice together. As for the storyline things move fast with the plot and the relationship between Connor, Vampire and Iris, Witch. These two have a strong attraction/pull to each other and they never full understand why they do. As relationships go this was fast-paced and not less then 48hrs into being together to solve who wants them dead, they are in love and a marriage proposal happens (a little farfetched for me). Also we get a lot of pinning over dead spouses and a life lost when they where changed into supernatural creatures. Overall, Blood Flame was an ok read. It was not fully for me, but if you find the blurb intriguing you should give it a try. Both protect the laws of their sectors and are very similar in nature, isolated, loners who keep to themselves. Of course they have to be separated by a backward society with huge hang ups about the opposite species, but that's all about to change. Do you like stories with vampires, or witches in it? Do you like action along with your romance? Do you like hot sex scenes, or hot sexy vamps? Answer yes and you'll enjoy this book, the first in the Flame series. I'll admit I've read all of the Guardian of Ascension, Amulet Series, Dawn of Ascension, Blood Rose series and enjoyed every one of them. Some were nice easy books, light sex scenes, others were hot, hot, hot! Okay that out of the way. I really enjoyed the first book in the Flame Series, Blood Flame. There was enough action to keep you interested, enough hot sex scenes to make you swoon wishing you had your own hot vamp. The characters, well, had depth, and the evil ones were enough you wanted to take a knife to them yourself. This is a bit different than Ms Roane's other ... although the vamps more or less had the same skills as the ones from books past. This world the Vamps, Witches, Shifters, Fae and Death Talkers (I'm guessing necromancers) all live in different sections and don't really mix. Vamps and witches kill each other... haven't got as far as the other inhabitants, so don't know if everyone's going to hate each other. The rest you have to read for yourself.. We all know most books end with an HEA, it's the getting there that's fun. I'm really interested where this world will go to and build.
