“Wild Magic”, the sequel to “Crystal Magic” is another interesting, well-plotted book. I couldn’t put it down. Unlike the first book, this episode does have a conclusion, but the final paragraph sets up the next book. I’m think I’m hooked on the series.
Kristyl Barnette and her enemy, the other Crystal have successfully retrieved a special crystal from the past, but it seems to have changed their present. Although Krystyl is still living with her Aunt Jody, her mother (who died in the first book) is living there, too. Her room is the same, but her clothes are different.
At school, things are weird too. She’s best friends with the mean girls, Crystal, Bridget and Lexie. She’s dating Fox, not Owen, who won’t even speak to her.
Strangest of all, she belongs to a witch circle with the three girls plus Fox, Zane and Griffin. When Crystal wants to anchor the circle to that special crystal, Kristyl thinks it’s way too dangerous and backs out. When people start getting hurt, she thinks the circle might be responsible.
Kristyl decides to go back to the nickname, Krissa, which Owen gave her in the first book. In addition to being a witch, Krissa is psychic. After she backs out of the circle, she seeks out her friends from her other reality. Needing someone to talk to, she confides everything to Felix, who has always been her friend.
In addition to the usual angst-ridden teen issues, Kristyl has much bigger problems which she meets head-on.
A final plus – the text has been proofed, meaning it is refreshingly free of the typos, misspelled words and gross mistakes often found in e-books. ( )
