( ) If you're looking for something fast paced, this is a great book. However, I often got lost in my disbelief and was bogged down by details and lack of details. This book is about what it seems. There are three houses ruling what's known of the universe. One seems to be very strong. Asa's house is running out of food, so her father decides to connect their family to the third to receive food in exchange for a new method of fuel and a strong alliance. I feel like in Elwood's head, there is this beautifully fleshed out world. However, this didn't completely translate to the book itself. There was room for a lot more details. I wasn't ever able to completely visualise the worlds that Asa was living in. I wanted some backstory of the world and the three major houses and if they bore any relation to the world we live in. This book was also challenging to begin because Elwood took us almost too quickly in, and I found myself floundering and needing to reread the blurb to understand the premise. Asa's voice is young and authentic. I adore the way she speaks--she actually feels sixteen. I'd have liked to see more of why she adored her older sister, Wren, so much, but her sweet devotion was inspiring and felt very real. Her and Eagle were cute, and again, felt their respective ages, which is something I really admire when found in YA relationships. Their emotions and insecurities were touching to read about. I feel like the storyline was kind of patched together at points. The overarching problem of fuel and food doesn't quite seem like the biggest priority and while the subplots all relate back, it's hard to remember what the real issue is. It did move very fast and each chapter had a lot of action propelling the plot forward. Overall, though this was a bit hard for me to get through, I think this book and series has a lot of potential, and if you get your hands on it I recommend reading it. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I recieved this ARC from Netgalley and this is my honest Review. Asa the youngest daughter of the Lord Fane through a series of events decides to take her middle sisters place as the bride to Heir of the neighbouring planet Wester. When I saw that this book had space opera AND an arranged marriage I immediately requested it from Netgalley. But as soon as I started reading I was thrown into an action sequence and got very confused and even when I reached the end of the book I am not sure I understood half the world or the characters. or The blight,or the amazing new technology. I felt I couldnt get a grip on the characters. What had made them what they were I was honestly surprised when Eagle and Asa bonded near the end since what interactions they did have had so far were so vaguely described. In fact a lot of the book is vague and things like this Breakfast is a reticence of ghosts. The cloudy gray window light dulls everyones smiles and clothes.Even the plates and knives are quiet. I know I know. Its poetic and wordy. But to me it just became a bit ridicilous since eating utensils are usually not prone to talk. I thought Asas personality was a bit hysterical and given too much to instropective description of her surroundings and leaping to conclusions. Why is she so attached to Wren her sister for example? Still not sure. This book was a disappointment to me but at times I did glimpse some potential from this author if she would just shed the needlessly complicated phrases and add some substance to her world and characters. Read all my reviews on http://urlphantomhive.booklikes.com Inherit The Stars is the first book in a duology by the same title. It has some problems, sure, but after reading the negative reviews, I was bracing myself for much worse. Asa, as youngest daughter of a great House, pretends to be her older sister and gets married to the Heir of another great House. All of this is rather impulsive, which really characterizes Asa. She's not likeable and difficult to feel any kind of sympathy for. The romance I think, will not surprise anyone. However, besides these things it was a rather fast and nice read. Since I already have the second book in the duology, I will be reading it some time. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
LOVE AND LOYALTY. As the youngest daughter of the House of Fane, Asa lives every day of her life in honor of both, for herself and her people. But as her kingdom's food and energy crisis peaks, Asa must find more to fuel Fane's survival. Taking the place of her older sister in an arranged marriage with Eagle, the heir to the prosperous House of Westlet, seems like a straightforward solution. Forging an unforeseen bond, however, leads to an unavoidable division of loyalties. One simple truth lies at the heart of the matter, and only Asa can decide which one to tell. Romance, politics, and space adventure intersect in this first book of Tessa Elwood's addictive debut duology. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
