This is the second book in the adventures of the four Gordon children and their friend Tom. This time Tom is more involved, when he flies to New York with his school orchestra to perform for charity. He meets a new friend called Georgina and they get caught up in a mystery, which involves several long distance emails to Tom's friends in Edinburgh for help. Exploring famous landmarks of New York, this is almost a game of hide and seek. Will they outwit the men who want to pull off a daring robbery? Is the Chinese business man newly moved to Edinburgh...a goodie or a baddie?… (altro)

I enjoyed reading this book. It will be a good read for young readers. It has mystery and intrigue. The story keeps you reading. The ending was fast and abrupt but good nonetheless. The history mentioned in this book was presented in a cute way. I would recommend this book to others.

This is the second book in this series. As with the last one, I wonder about parents who will so easily leave their children to tour/wander alone in a big, new, foreign city. In this case, Georgina’s parents seem more interested in their careers in the fashion industry than in Georgina, or “George”, as she is called. They do not leave her alone to wander around New York during her visit from Europe, where she lives, however, but they do let her spend all her days with Tom, another young boy and one from the first book in the series who she meets for the first time during the flight over, and his parents, though they have not met this boy or his parents before this trip. Based on all I have read and heard about problems young people have with strangers, whether old or young, I am again surprised at how the parents just leave their children alone or in the company of complete strangers in a new, foreign city. As in the last book, this one turns out okay, and both George and Tom spend their time sightseeing while solving clues to figure out what the two mysterious men Tom bumps into at the airport when he arrives in NYC, are up to. Once again, the young sleuths stop a criminal and his nefarious gang, for which the police are grateful. The story is filled with lots of great images of NYC, as the two teenagers and Tom’s parents tour the city. Their trip is exciting. There is a different glitch in this book, however. Tom and George befriend another young girl whose father just happens to be one of the two mysterious men they are tracking, which complicates things a bit. I wondered if this was not just a little too convenient. This is an interesting story, though, as I felt when I read the first book in the series, a little beyond reality. I received this book from Library Thing to read and review. ( )
